The Louvre!
The Louvre was
amazingly overwhelming/overwhelmingly amazing
How could I be standing in the same building with so much history!
First of all, the Louvre 380,000 objects and displays 35,000 works of art in eight curatorial departments with more than 652,000 sq ft dedicated to the permanent collection.
We were told that if we spent 20 seconds in front of each piece of art on display that it would take us 3 months straight.
Obviously we had to pick and choose what we wanted to see.
We decided that we would hit the major things and then enjoy and appreciate whatever we saw on our way back out.
First up?
The Venus de Milo
The Winged Victory of Samothrace
Then it was off to make our way through the crowds to see the Mona Lisa.
Can you say crowded?
But it was worth it.
I got an AWESOME picture.
The sculptures were breathtaking.
And we were off!
While we walked away from the Louvre we were trying to plan what to do next.
The sunny morning was wearing off into a cloudy grey day.
Tut-tut, it looks like rain.
Next thing we knew,
we got wetter in the first 10 seconds of the rain than we get in the showers at the Centre.
Talk about a torrential downpour!
Naturally, we were walking between a street full of cars and the river Seine without an umbrella,
so our choices were to run across traffic to cover (bad idea), jump in the Seine since we were already drenched (another bad idea), or keep running until we found cover.
We chose the latter and found relief in a Metro station ahead.
We walked squashily down the steps (all in skirts and short sleeves for the sunny morning weather) looking like drowned rats and everybody stared. They didn't even realize it was raining down there.
Leaving a puddle trail as we went, we made our way to the train stop a couple blocks from our hostel so we could put on dry clothes.
We emerged from the Metro station to more rain and gave up running.
What's the use when you already look like you jumped in a river?
What next?
We danced in the rain of course!
