Today I learned the difference between babysitting and teaching primary.
I feel like I’ve been babysitting all my life. Babysitting is great! I get to play games, let the kids talk my ear off, run around outside, use my imagination, and see things from a kid’s perspective. They get to run the show and have my full attention. I slip into their world for a bit.
Primary is hard. I have to make them sit in a chair with their arms folded and be quiet while I do the talking, when all I really want to do is lay on the floor with them and play games. Don’t get me wrong, ‘Choosing the Right Gives Me a Happy Feeling’ is a very important lesson for my four and five-year-olds to learn, but it proves difficult when Kojo is under his chair and Angel wants to tell me about her swimming pool and Paris wants to sit on my lap and CJ has to go wee. It gets a little complicated. Have no fear though! I’ll have those kids sitting still by the time I leave the country… I hope.
