that I do a post about my France trip.
It was a busy week! So the prospect of having to blog about it all was a little daunting. I'll break it up though.
Day 1: We woke up bright and early so that we could catch the ferry at 10am. It was about a two hour nap (drive) on the coach until we reached the Dover where we drove the coach into the creepy bottom part of the ferry. We quickly ran upstairs to the deck so we could watch the ferry depart from the dock.
It was a grey day to be crossing the channel, and the mist was cold, so we moseyed back inside to look around the shops on the ferry. After 1 hour and a half we loaded back on our coach and made our way to our first destination.
The weather seemed to match the solemnity of the memorial at Vimy Ridge.
Dr. Tate told us that the pockmarked landscape was all from bombs and explosions of the war. It was hard to believe that it used to be just a grassy field.
We walked through the trenches that the soldiers lived in for so many months.
Our next stop was where Armistice Day was born. We got to look inside the train where it was all settled
And then.........
We arrived in Paris!
This was our little hotel/hostel thing:
The potty was weird.
And it smelled gross.
And it was loud.
Also, there was an on/off button for the flush.
Who does that?
Anyways, on the left is Megan in our strange little room and on the right is our view out our window!
Which was really cool until we wanted to go to bed and it was like trying to sleep on the side of the freeway. The French got a little firework-happy at night in honor of the pending Bastille Day as well.
But really we just dropped our stuff of and ran to the Metro so we could run around and see as many things as we could before bed. Time was a-wasting!
The boat tour on the Seine at sunset was probably the best decision we made.
Ready for the pictures?
Prepare to be amazed!
And that was the ending to my very busy first day in Paris.
